  • Will liaise with your building maintenance contractors and tap into their knowledge of existing electrical & mechanical systems on site.
  • Will talk with your employees, before inspection of site equipment. They will understand how your business uses energy before they recommend the most effective ways to reduce it.
  • Will work hard to find equipment that uses the most energy on site. They will not focus on the small stuff. They will target the 'quick wins' first, prioritising on the most viable energy saving projects that deliver the best financial return.
  • Will insist on measuring the power consumption of various equipment on site, to be absolutely certain of the running costs & significance of their contribution to the overall energy bill.

Guide on How to find the best Energy Audit Company

It’s a competitive market, the best energy auditors will be busy and you will need to find them to deliver the best outcomes for your project.

Step 1 - Search our directory

To commence to find, view and compare energy audit companies.

Step 2 - Interview the energy auditor

When you have narrowed down your search to a few companies, contact each of them. Insist on finding out the name of the actual person who would be undertaking the energy audit for your premises. Talk directly over the phone or organise a face-to-face meeting with the proposed energy auditor. If you end up talking with a manager instead of the energy auditor, then you will not be able to review the skills of the energy auditor. Use our 'Interview checklist' for an effective interview.

Remember ....

“The quality of an Energy Audit is a direct reflection of the ability of the ‘actual person’(not the company's track record) who undertakes the audit on site”

Download our Interview Checklist

Use our 2-page energy auditor interview checklist (see below PDF attachment) to assist with your energy auditor selection process.

The following key items are covered in the Interview checklist;

  1. Qualifications - The auditor should have strong exposure & technical understanding of building services equipment & be an experienced electrical or mechanical engineer who demonstrates excellent problem solving skills.
  2. Previous audit examples - Discuss examples of the auditor's past work. Not examples of work produced by other employees of the company. The example energy audits should ideally be similar to your building type & function.
  3. Testimonials - When did the auditor last conduct an energy audit? And who was their client? Ask to contact this client & investigate how satisfied they were & what things the energy auditor could have been done better.
  4. Conflict of Interest – Each energy auditor needs to know what energy saving products are available in market place to be able to advise on the best energy efficient solutions applicable to your building. Ask the energy auditor to declare any 'conflict of interest'. In other words, do they or their company receive a fee or financial benefit for recommending specific energy efficiency products. This will determine if their advice will be biased in any way.
  5. Comprehensive Audit - Determine if the proposed energy auditor has the technical ability to analyse & provide recommendations to save energy for ‘all aspects’ of your building. These aspects will include lighting, air conditioning, building fabric, office appliances & computers, exhaust fans, hot water, compressed air systems, boilers, chillers etc… It is common to unknowingly appoint an energy auditor that only looks at one or 2 aspects, resulting in an incomplete or partial energy audit.
  6. Energy Audit Packages - Good energy audit companies will offer a variety of energy audit packages to select from. This will ensure that your energy audit quotation includes options of scope to suit your varying needs & budget.
